Immerse yourself in the silent winter landscape

Back-country skiing and snowshoeing

The wintry Rieserferner Group around Antholz offers back-country skiers special adventures in nature with a range of tour options. From gentle ascents over alpine meadows through to challenging high alpine routes on three thousand metre-plus summits such as the Hochgall or Magerstein, there is something for all levels of experience. Other popular destinations include the Rote Wand and the Hinterbergkofel. Showshoers can leave their tracks in the deep snow through snowy forests to secret alpine pastures, always accompanied by fantastic summit views. One popular and accessible tour, for example, leads from Lake Antholz along the closed road to the Staller Sattel.

For skiers there is a charming and compact ski resort available in the Antholz Valley that is especially suited to families. The slopes at the Riepen Lift in the middle Antholz valley are ideal for your first attempts on skis or for refreshing your technique. With its gentle slopes and compact size, it provides a relaxed atmosphere where children feel at home and parents know that they are safe. For more advanced and passionate skiers, our proximity to the popular ski resort of the Kronplatz (accessible via Olang) is a great advantage, where countless kilometres of slopes, modern lifts, cosy chalets and great après-ski parties await.

Pure fun on runners

Tobogganing and ice skating

Fans of tobogganing will love Antholz! There are countless inviting natural toboggan runs offering rapid descents through the snowy landscape. One particularly popular toboggan run that is often prepared for use leads from Lake Antholz up to the Staller Sattel (pass road that is closed in winter) and is a really fun descent. A number of different inns on the alps in the area offer tobogganing where you can fortify yourself with regional speciality dishes before enjoying a run down the hill. In Oberrasen there is a small natural ice rink behind the cultural centre, and there is also one in Niederrasen, where you can hire skates too. And then, of course, the nature in the surroundings is especially romantic when viewed from a horse-drawn sleigh.

Tips for bad weather? Yes, but not just for rainy days!

Cross-country skiing taster lessons, in either skating or classical style, perhaps even with a biathlon rifle in your hand. Torchlit hikes in the early evening, guided snowshoe walks in the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park, cultural events ... A few museums are also open in winter and are a great destination when you feel like taking a break from sport or it is snowing too much for you. The museums on the Kronplatz are a good example - Lumen and the MMM Corones are well worth a visit under any circumstances, whilst Dolomythos in Innichen, which is themed on the history and geology of the Dolomites, is also absolutely fascinating.
