Directions from the Brenner Pass or from Bolzano (A22):

1) Follow the A22 motorway or the national highway that runs parallel to it. Take the Bressanone North exit and turn off into the Puster Valley.

2) If you are travelling from the south and find yourself on the national highway, from the Bressanone bypass take the exit to Vahrn. At the large roundabout turn towards Schabs. This road leads to the road to the Puster Valley.

Follow this for around 1 hour and 20 minutes, bypassing the main town of Bruneck along the way. Continue via Percha and Nasen as far as Rasen-Antholz near Olang. There turn into the Antholz Valley. From there it is just another 15 minutes’ drive by car as far as Obertal.

Directions from Lienz in Eastern Tyrol:

There are two main routes available:

1) Regular route: Through the Puster Valley, past the localities of Abfaltersbach and Sillian. Cross the border and travel onwards via Vierschach, Innichen and Toblach as far as Rasen-Antholz near Olang, where you will finally turn into the Antholz Valley.

2) For fans of mountain passes: Through the Defereggen Valley and over the Staller Sattel pass: if you like pass roads, then you can take this route as an alternative. The Staller Sattel is usually open from mid-May until the end of October and the journey time from Lienz is around 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Normally there are good rail connections from Germany, Austria and Switzerland offering a relaxed and sustainable journey, but unfortunately at present the train line between Franzensfeste and Bruneck is closed (it is expected to reopen in December 2025). Until then a rail replacement service is operating. However, there are no problems travelling from Eastern Tyrol via Lienz.
